Sweet and Savory Steel Cut Oats

We’re on vacation with a bunch of extended family this week – thirty-one people in one (huge) house in Breckenridge, CO! We’re all taking turns preparing meals, and my husband and I were on for this morning’s breakfast. Our “Savory and Sweet Steel Cut Oats” were a hit and so simple, I thought I’d share it in case you’re needing some inspiration for delicious, nutritious breakfast ideas that work well for big groups.

Last night, I put the oats, water, and 2 T salted butter in a Crock Pot (which I found in a cupboard in our rental house—score!) and let them cook on low all night.

For the Sweet Oats:
I set out bowls of brown sugar, raisins, walnuts and shredded coconut and let people fix their own bowls.

For the Savory Oats:
My husband sautéed garlic, onions, mushrooms and broccoli on the stove in a large deep pan, then added cooked oats and parmesan cheese, mixed it up and let it cook up a bit more.

That’s it! Simple and delicious and great for a big group of people!

How about you? What are some of your go-to meals for big groups?
