How Do We Prepare Our Kids to Become a Foster Family?

One of the questions I am asked most frequently is, “How do you recommend we prepare our children to welcome foster children into our home?”

This is a very important question. When a couple decides to become foster parents, if they have children already, this decision does not just affect the parents—existing children in a home are every bit as much part of the foster family as their parents are.

If this is something you are thinking (and wondering) about, I want to encourage you to consider joining the Flourishing Foster Parent, where this week’s Coaching Call will focus on preparing your children to become a foster family. I’ve invited a foster parent named Beckey to be my guest on this week’s call. She has some great insights on this topic, and I know we’ll all benefit from her input.

This week’s call is scheduled for Wednesday, August 28, at 10:00 AM (PST), and it is open to all active/current members of The Flourishing Foster Parent (FFP). To join, simply go to A Fostered Life’s Patreon page and click “Become a Patron.” Select The Flourishing Foster Parent Tier ($5/month). Once you’ve done completed that, you’ll receive invitations via email to the Coaching Calls, which take place on Google Meet (you can join from your computer or by dialing in by phone). You’ll also get access to recordings of past Coaching Calls!

Being part of a support community is soooooo important for foster parents and caregivers. If you’re a foster parent, or thinking of becoming one, I hope you’ll consider joining FFP and being part of this week’s call!
