Coaching Calls

The learning curve for foster parents is huge.

No one goes in to foster parenting knowing what they’re doing! The training we go through as part of the licensing process can only take us so far, and when the rubber hits the road and the challenges come, we need others to walk with us. Learning how to “parent” children with trauma in their backgrounds, negotiating the nuances of engaging with your foster child’s family members, navigating challenges at school, and trying to help your child develop emotional health requires knowledge and grace beyond most people’s natural capacity.

Coaching Calls provide foster parents and caregivers an opportunity for real-time conversation and engagement with others who understand the challenges and joys of fostering in a safe, judge-free zone. Participants will have time to both listen to others and share from their experiences.

Each call is structured as follows:

  • Welcome/Introduction:
  • Topic Share: A speaker addresses a topic relevant to foster parents
  • Q&A
  • Wrap Up/Practical Tips

Coaching Calls are available to those who join The Flourishing Foster Parent on Patreon. The cost is $5 per month, and you may cancel at any time. Click here for more information.

Recordings of most of the calls will be made available. They will be edited to protect the privacy of call participants, but the main content will be available to all members.
